For most people a consultation is the first time anyone has looked at their hair loss properly. It sets the tone for everything after it, and it tells you a great deal about the clinic: who is in the room, how carefully they look, and whether they are prepared to tell you something you did not want to hear.
Who you meet
At City Clinics your consultation is led by the surgeon who would plan and perform your procedure. There is no sales team and nobody is paid a commission. Many patients begin by video or phone from home; before any surgery is confirmed you are examined in person at 82 Harley Street.
The examination
Hair loss is assessed, not estimated. The examination combines a trichoscopic assessment, which looks at the scalp and hair under magnification, with robotic scalp mapping of follicle density, hair calibre and the true capacity of your donor area. The donor area matters most: every graft you will ever have comes from that one finite band of permanent hair.
The verdict
Not everyone should have a hair transplant, and not everyone who should have one should have it now. If your loss is still moving quickly, or your donor supply would not support the result you have in mind, the honest advice may be to wait, or to consider a different plan. You should expect to hear that plainly.

The plan and the price
If surgery is right for you, you leave with a written plan: a graft count based on measurement, the design discussed with you, the timing, and one fixed, all-inclusive price that covers the aftercare programme. The decision
Consultation and surgery are never booked for the same day. You decide in your own time, with the plan in your hand.
Five questions worth asking any clinic
- Who performs the extraction and the placement, and will I meet them before the day?
- How many patients are treated in the theatre each day?
- How is my donor capacity measured, and how much is being kept in reserve?
- What exactly does the price include: reviews, medication, supporting treatments?
- If something worries me at two in the morning, who answers the phone?
