Hair transplant in London vs Turkey — what actually differs
Turkey is cheaper. That's real, and we won't pretend otherwise. But the advertised price rarely includes everything that protects your result — so here's an honest, doctor-led comparison to help you decide with your eyes open.
The cost, honestly
The number you see abroad is the procedure only. The number you actually pay includes flights, a hotel, and any revision if the result isn't right. Here's how the real totals compare.
Ranges are typical market figures, not quotes; individual clinics and cases vary. The point isn't that abroad is always dearer — it's that all-inclusive UK care often lands close to a Turkey trip's true cost, with a GMC surgeon and a year of aftercare built in.
The model is the real difference
Not skill in isolation — the system. Who leads your care, how many people they see in a day, and who's accountable afterwards.
High-volume model
Several patients a day; technicians often carry out much of the work.
City Clinics
One patient, per surgeon, per day — doctor-led, planned and directed by your GMC surgeon.
| The typical Turkey package | City Clinics, London | |
|---|---|---|
| Who leads your care | Technicians often carry out much of the work; the surgeon may oversee several cases at once | Doctor-led throughout — a GMC-registered surgeon plans and directs your treatment |
| Patients per day | Frequently several patients in parallel | One patient, per surgeon, per day |
| Regulation & accountability | Varies by clinic and country | CQC rated Good, GMC surgeons, treated under UK law |
| Aftercare | Usually ends once you fly home | 12 months of structured aftercare (a £2,000 programme) included |
| If something needs attention | Another flight, or no clear UK recourse | Seen in person at 82 Harley Street |
| What the price includes | Often the procedure only — flights, hotel and any revision are extra | All-inclusive — the price you're quoted is the price you pay |
What your price actually buys
Same headline procedure — very different amount of care around it.
City Clinics — all-inclusive
Typical Turkey package
We take only what you need — and no more
Your donor area — the band of permanent hair at the back and sides — is finite. Once follicles are taken from it, they don't grow back.
That changes the incentive. A high-volume clinic has every reason to sell you as many grafts as possible. We have the opposite one: your surgeon takes only what your plan genuinely needs and deliberately protects the rest — so there's always healthy donor hair held in reserve for the years ahead, as your hair loss naturally evolves. It's designed for the long game, not maximised for a single invoice. It's your hair for life, and we'd rather plan it that way.
Why we've even put this here
Honestly, Turkey's market doesn't change what we do on Harley Street — it's a different service for a different patient. But nearly every man who sits down with us has thought about going abroad. So rather than pretend the option isn't there, we'd rather you weigh it up with real facts. Here's what independent bodies and the press actually report.
What the coverage actually says
British man, 38, dies after falling ill during a hair-transplant trip to Istanbul
At least six UK nationals died in Turkey in 2024 after medical procedures
Around 96% of the world's worst hair-transplant results trace to unlicensed operators
Corrective surgery after a cheap transplant abroad has nearly doubled

Shared to inform, not to alarm — many people have good outcomes abroad, and there are excellent surgeons in Turkey. The risk sits at the unregulated, high-volume end of the market.
If it goes wrong
A revision means a second procedure and another trip — and UK regulation and law can't protect you from abroad. That one risk can wipe out the whole saving.
No aftercare once home
Healing and shedding play out over months. Without local follow-up, no one checks your progress or catches a problem early.
The trip itself
Flights, a hotel and time off work add up — and add stress to a medical decision.

Book a consultationCommon questions
Is a hair transplant in Turkey safe?
Many patients have good outcomes abroad, and there are excellent surgeons in Turkey. The risk with the high-volume model is variability — how much of your care the surgeon personally leads, and what aftercare exists once you're home. We'd always encourage checking who leads your treatment and what follow-up is included, wherever you go.
Why is City Clinics more expensive?
Because a surgeon leads one patient's care a day and stays involved for a year afterwards, and everything — the procedure, medication and 12 months of aftercare — is in one all-inclusive price. You're paying for doctor-led care and accountability, not a production line.
What's included in your price?
The consultation, the FUE procedure, all medication, and a 12-month structured aftercare programme — a £2,000 value (four reviews, four PRP sessions and a 24-hour line), built into every price rather than sold as an add-on. Your exact price is confirmed with your surgeon at consultation.
Can you fix a previous transplant done elsewhere?
Often, yes — repair and refinement work is something we see regularly. The best next step is a consultation so the surgeon can assess your donor area and what's realistic.
