City Clinics began in Kensington and earned its way to 82 Harley Street — a Grade II-listed building that has stood since 1913 on the most famous medical street in the world. The clinic itself is young; the address is not.

IWhere we began

Kensington first. Harley Street earned.

Our first London clinic opened in Kensington with a simple conviction: surgeon-led hair restoration, done properly, with nothing hidden. The work spoke. The reputation grew. And when the clinic outgrew its first home, only one address made sense.

Moving to 82 Harley Street was not a change of postcode — it was a statement about the standard we hold ourselves to. On this street, the work has to justify the address.

Harley Street — two centuries of medicine at its most exacting.

1800sPhysicians and surgeons begin gathering on one Marylebone street, drawn by proximity to the great teaching hospitals — the address becomes shorthand for medical excellence.
1913The building at number 82 rises — classical proportions, generous rooms, built in an era when medicine was becoming modern. It has served health ever since.
TodayThe street remains what it always was: the place patients come when the decision matters. City Clinics is proud — and conscious of the duty — to practise here.

The company we keep

A street where medicine had to prove itself.

Harley Street did not become famous by advertising. It became famous because, for the better part of two centuries, the practitioners who took rooms here were the ones other doctors sent their difficult cases to — and because a bad reputation on a street this small does not survive a single season.

1Proximity to the teaching hospitalsSurgeons wanted rooms within a carriage ride of the great London hospitals. The street filled from the south end northwards, and never emptied.
2Consulting rooms, not shopsThese were houses first. The scale of the rooms, the light from the sash windows and the privacy of a front door on a quiet street are exactly why the model still works.
3A name that travelsPatients fly to this postcode from every continent — which places an obligation on everyone who practises here, ourselves very much included.

What a listed building asks of you

You do not renovate a Grade II. You look after it.

Fitting a modern operating theatre inside a listed Edwardian townhouse is a slower, more expensive and far more careful business than fitting one inside a retail unit. Original cornicing stays. Sash windows are repaired, not replaced. Services run where the fabric allows, not where it would be convenient.

The result is a clinic that feels like a house and performs like a hospital — and a building that will still be here, doing this work, long after all of us.
