FUE Hair Transplants

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a refined hair transplant technique that involves extracting individual hair follicles with minimal disruption to surrounding tissue. This method supports faster recovery and leaves only tiny, dot-like marks that are typically not visible, even with short hairstyles. Its precision allows for natural-looking results and styling flexibility across different hair types.

A Personal Message from Dr Mohamed

FUE is the technique I trust most for hair restoration. It allows us to extract individual follicles with precision, leading to faster recovery and minimal scarring—often invisible even with short hair. This method gives us flexibility to tailor each procedure to your hair type and goals, while maintaining natural-looking, long-term results.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What is a FUE transplant?

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive hair transplant method that achieves natural-looking results with fast recovery and virtually no visible scarring.

Before the procedure begins, the necessary areas will be gently trimmed or shaved by a member of our surgical team. Dr Mohamed will then apply a local anaesthetic to the donor area to ensure the process is pain-free and comfortable—this typically takes effect within minutes. For patients feeling anxious, a mild sedative can also be provided to help you feel more at ease.

Once the donor area is fully numbed, Dr Mohamed carefully extracts individual hair follicles using a technique designed to minimise scarring and preserve surrounding tissue.

Once the recipient sites are mapped out, a local anaesthetic is applied to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Using fine instruments, the surgeon creates micro-channels at precise angles to match the natural direction of hair growth. Each graft is then placed with care by the surgical team, ensuring alignment and density that blend seamlessly with existing hair. The area is then examined under magnification to confirm accurate placement and optimal integration.

FUE techniques have evolved considerably in recent years, making the procedure more comfortable and recovery smoother. Most patients report feeling little to no discomfort the day after surgery. Depending on your daily routine and activity level, you can typically resume normal activities within 7 to 10 days.

Benefits of Choosing FUE Hair Transplan

FUE surgery is well-suited for eligible patients seeking a quicker recovery and minimal scarring compared to traditional FUT methods. Its refined technique allows for greater styling freedom, including shorter haircuts. With significant advancements over the past decade, FUE is also a preferred option for those who want to avoid shaving large sections of the scalp.

Effective for moderate hair loss

FUE is suitable for various stages of hair loss, with particularly strong results in cases of moderate thinning.

What is the cost of an FUE hair transplant?

We’re committed to bringing transparency to hair transplant pricing while delivering exceptional, natural-looking results. Our pricing is based solely on the size and complexity of your procedure—never inflated to maximise cost.

Transgender Hair Transplant

At City Clinics we are LGBTQ and transgender friendly practice and we have successfully performed male-to-female transgender hair transplants with great results.

Male to Female hair transplant

If you are a male-to-female transgender person, your oestrogen levels may increase and reduce the impact of DHT on your hair. This can help prevent or reverse hair loss caused by DHT.

However, you may still have some signs of hair thinning or a receding hairline if you experienced balding as a male before transitioning. We can help you achieve a more feminine hairline with our innovative FUE hair transplant technique. We can reshape your hairline from a typical male ‘m’ shape to a more curved and natural female shape with an MTF hair transplant.

Female to Male hair transplant

If you are transitioning from female to male, your male hormones may affect your appearance, including your hair. You may develop male pattern baldness over time, which is caused by the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) binding to the hair follicles. This disrupts the hair growth cycle and leads to hair loss and thinning.

Male pattern baldness is irreversible and there is no cure for it. For our FTM transgender patients who want to have a fuller and natural-looking hair, we offer FUE hair transplant surgery as a solution.

Aftercare

After your procedure, you’ll receive a personalised course of medication designed to support healing, reduce any discomfort, and protect against infection. To help maintain and optimise your results long-term, we also offer prescription treatments that target ongoing hair loss and promote sustained regrowth.

FAQ

FUE frequently asked questions

FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction and is a minimally invasive treatment. Such a technique is favoured by City Clinics, due to its minimal downtime and less obvious detection at the donor site. The FUE method requires skill and masterful precision, and so it is practised here by our doctors in the clinic.

Our doctors will remove follicles from regions containing the sufficient number of hair strands, predominantly found at the back of the neck, or sides of the head. The hair follicles are removed at the root by a medical extraction tool and then transplanted to the required area of the scalp, where thinning or balding is present. The harvested follicles are then implanted into the necessary areas. Our surgeons take great care in ensuring that all hairs are implanted, at the same angle of the current hair growth in healthy regions, so that after treatment, the new hairs will grow unnoticeably.

Our doctors will discuss with you and decide whether FUE is a suitable approach. Consultations are held either in person or via video, by Dr Mohamed. Generally, we class suitable, candidates as those with healthy hair growth at the back, and sides of the head, for it is imperative to collect a sufficient number of follicles to perform the hair transplant. Texture, colour and curl in your hair are all considered before recommending the use of this technique; so that you have the best possible chance to attain your desired outcome.

FUE is performed under local anaesthetic and is minimally invasive, which means most patients within our care will not feel anything whilst the surgery is underway. However, on completion of the procedure, there may be mild discomfort whilst you heal, which will typically last a week at most.

The transplant will take place at our clinic, where all the necessary facilities are available.

In most cases, we require the patient’s hair cut short; to ensure the maximum number of quality grafts. However, some transplants have occurred without cutting the hair short as the number of grafts required was minimal.

Most patients require a total of two procedures in their lifetime. However, depending on the individual’s personal goals, level of hair loss and future changes, this may vary.

We expect the newly transplanted hair to shed by 3-6 weeks post-surgery and a further 2-4 months to begin regrowth. We approximate growth to be at the halfway stage by six months, and then the completed result achieved within 12-14 months. Inevitably a definite time frame cannot be guaranteed, as all individuals vary. Nevertheless, we have seen the above to be a general pattern for many. We recommend that you have your progress reviewed by attending an appointment with the doctor six months post-surgery.

We have a strict protocol that ensures we only have doctors completing the placement to ensure the naturalness of the final result. The FUE hair transplant procedure requires excellent surgical skills and natural artistic flair and we encourage you to view our gallery to see how we achieve the natural results which are the hallmark of a great hair transplant.

A hair transplant procedure can vary from patient to patient. The duration of the surgery depends on several factors; i.e. the number of grafts, excessive bleeding, etc. Typically, hair transplants should last approximately 6 hours.

For such a complex- and personal procedure, there is no one-size-fits-all all fee. We advise you to arrange a consultation at our clinic or online, for an assessment of your donor area. In turn, this should allow us to provide the most suitable options for your ideal outcome.

Factors to consider when choosing a hair transplant clinic include health and safety, consultation, cost, results, aftercare and recovery. In Turkey, hair transplant clinics should be registered with the Turkish Medical Association or the Ministry of Health. In our clinics, the Care Quality Commission regulates clinical practices and surgical safety. A consultation with us gives you the option for in-person meetings with our expert Dr Mohamed and a thorough hair and scalp exam, while a consultation with a Turkish clinic will likely be online. Hair transplant pricing is typically cheaper in Turkey, but quality and safety should be prioritized. Success rates and testimonials from previous patients are important to consider when choosing a clinic. Unlike in Turkey, aftercare and support services are more accessible within our clinics
