Our Aftercare Package

Aftercare begins, before, the procedure has even taken place. All of our patients will have a tailor-made approach to their FUE hair transplant. Side effects and the aftercare package are discussed with our patients prior, to the surgery, ensuring that all candidates are aware of the situation before proceeding. Patients administer a week’s course of antibiotics to reduce the chance of infection and minimise swelling. The surgeon may also prescribe additional medication upon discharge, though this may differ for every patient and depend on their specific circumstances. Our surgeons will also demonstrate how to wash your hair post-operation so that you minimise dislodging the new follicles. All of the above information is provided to our patients in an information pack once the procedure is complete.

How Long Will Recovery Take?

Recovery can take up to 2 weeks, but most of our clients can heal in 7 days. During this time, the newly transplanted follicles can make the scalp area feel tight and might possibly ache - this can be made more comfortable with over the counter painkillers such as paracetamol after the course of antibiotics has been finished. You may also experience scabbing over of the areas where the hair has been transplanted - please do not try and pick at these as they will need time to fall off on their own to aid a healthy recovery. Our surgeons will show you how to wash these away if they persist after two weeks.

You may also experience something called 'Shock Loss' - which is a perfectly healthy and normal part of the recovery period. There will also be an amount of shedding present as the new hair grows and the life cycle of the newly implanted follicles begins to settle. Do not be alarmed, this is a good sign that the transferred follicles are settling and adjusting to their new placement.

Are There Side Effects?

As with any surgical procedures, there can be side effects but most of these are advised as a precaution and do not affect all patients. This includes temporary bruising, bleeding and soreness of the scalp, as well as a feeling of tightness that will pass as the scabs heal. There is also potential for infection at the sites of the hair transplants, which is why we administer a 3 day antibiotic course for all patients upon discharge. Finally, some patients may experience ingrowing hairs at the site of some transplants, which can be rectified by our surgeons if this becomes an issue.

Our patients can call us with any concerns about their healing/recovery or indeed with ay questions they may have during the growth of their new hair follicles. We also offer an 12 month post operative consultation for free to check on your hair journey and to suggest if any further treatment is needed.
